It is often said that service is the key in any industry. You’ve got to look after your customers, as well as your prospective customers. This is something Simon Emery has been taking a great deal of pride in for nearly 20 years in the car trade.

Having set up Deals on Wheels just a few short years ago in a small shop in the centre of town, Simon built up a great reputation for quality used cars at the right price, as well as an attention to detail that is second to none. Offering everything car related, including car sales, rent and buy plans, insurance, M.O.T.’s, road tax, and a full paperwork service for local and duty free cars, “ I can offer everything in-house. From our 130 point pre-sales check on every car, to regular servicing for our customers, as well as servicing and mechanical work for anyone and everyone.”

What about the Deals On Service team? Well, as you’d imagine, they are lifelong lovers of the combustion engine, with a mixture of experience and youth on their side. “Phil the foreman has 40 years experience in the auto trade. You name it, he knows it. With a passion for old motor bikes and racing, engines are his life – both in and out of the garage! Then we have Chris the mechanic. He is a fully qualified mechanical engineer and a great boon to the team. Roy is our part-time mechanic, with, believe it or not, 50 years experience! Roy is very particular about what is done and how it’s done. He makes sure we are all kept in line – particularly our apprentice, Josh. He has youth and enthusiasm on his side, and will jump on his scooter to get all our parts, quick-smart!”

Of course we mustn’t forget the cars themselves. As well as sourcing a wide range of cars at great prices, every car goes through a 130 point pre-sales check list at the Service Centre. “Even our cheap “run arounds” go through the check list. We have to make sure that the cars are good and reliable. We’ve sold over 1000 cars in Paphos. You can’t do that without making sure that the vehicles themselves are of good quality, and ensuring that you have the back-up to look after your customers once they’ve left the showroom.”    

Many’s the time I’ve been in the showroom with Simon, marvelling at the customer service he offers which is really beyond the call of duty! A good example of this happened just a few weeks ago. I’d popped in to see him about something, and as usual, his phone rang as we were chatting. It was a customer who had bought a car from Simon way back in 2005. Somehow, they had broken the electronic key. Whether the dog had chewed it up or a toddler had dropped it in the toilet I do not know. However, without the electronic key, the car immobiliser would not work, so the car would not start. Firstly, Simon remembered the customer and the car in great detail. Secondly, Simon immediately sent one of his lads up to the customers’ house to get them started, following this with every effort to get a new key programmed. Result? A happy customer.

Simon is also the supplier of Cars To The Stars! When celebrities visit, their first stop is at Simon’s showroom to arrange a car to drive about in. “We’ve had a few famous visitors to the showroom. Stan Boardman, Jess Conrad. I remember John Virgo was a great chap. He drove about in a lovely HRV while he was here, and made a point of popping in to crack jokes. It’s just a shame we didn’t have a snooker table in the showroom!”
